Accounts & FAUNet ID
The FAUNet ID is the account name you use to log in to many of the systems you will utilize in your daily life at Florida Atlantic University, and it is a part of your official FAU e-mail address (e.g., FAUNetID@fau.edu). FAU uses single-sign-on for most of its applications. This means that you will be using the same FAUNet ID and password for most of the applications offered to you as a student, faculty, and/or staff.
For Students, your FAUNet ID is generated when you are admitted to FAU. Before logging in to any of FAU’s systems with your new FAUNet ID, you will need to activate it by visiting the FAU Account Self-Services portal.
The original FAUNetID (username) is not subject to change. The only two exceptions are if an error was made in the spelling of your name that affected the FAUNet ID assigned to you or if you have legally changed your name. Before changing your FAUNet ID, you must have recorded your legal name change in the University’s database.
Faculty and staff need to contact Human Resources; students need to contact the Registrar’s Office. Once your name has been officially changed, you may request a FAUNet ID change by submitting a FAUNet ID Change request.
Steps for activating your FAUNet ID
- Visit accounts.fau.edu and click on the “Activate your FAUNet ID” link.
- You will receive a warning that once you begin, you must complete the activation process. Click Proceed when you are ready.
- Enter your last name, FAUNetID, and Date of Birth. Click Continue. (If you do not know your FAUNetID, return to the home page and click “Lookup your FAUNet ID”) Check the box and complete the task for the CAPTCHA. Click Continue to Proceed.
- Click the drop down arrow and select the home address you entered on your application.
- You can enter your phone number for future password resets, or click Opt-Out. Click Update after you enter a phone number.

How to change your password
New account
If you are new to FAU, you will be asked to provide a recovery email address during the initial activation of your FAU account. You also have the option of providing a text-enabled (SMS) cell phone number to which you can receive a verification code should you ever need to reset your password in the future.
Existing account
If you have an existing FAU account, you can utilize the “Forgot your Password” self-service feature available on the FAU Account Self-Services portal as long as you have the recovery email address or SMS (text) enabled phone number set up. This means you do not have to contact the OIT Help Desk for a password reset.
To add a recovery email or SMS (text) phone number to your account, visit the FAU Accounts Services portal and click on the “Manage Your Account” tile. Log in with your FAUNet ID and current password, select “Change” under the Password Recovery Options section.
Once the recovery options have been added to your account, you will be able to use the “Forgot Your Password” self-service feature by providing your FAUNet ID.
